Meet Guy Sabag

This week, we’re spotlighting Guy, a seasoned engineer who brings 20 years of industrial control experience to Contel Smart Energy, and the focus and persistence of a tennis player to both the court and his projects.

The Professional Game

With a background in electronics, electrical engineering and energy management, Guy is today a Project Engineer in Contel Smart’s Engineering team, leading energy-control and management projects from the initial collection and analysis of site data through to full system integration and operation, while working closely with our development and IT teams, customers and other project partners.

Under the Hood

A recent example of the type of projects Guy lead is the upgrade of control systems at three high profile operational utility scale EDF sites. The challenge was to take large volumes of technical information from existing third-party control systems, analyze it and translate it into Contel Smart’s environment.

Guy combined extensive preparation with several site visits to validate the information before the actual replacement. Because the facilities were fully operational, the system cutovers were carried out at night to avoid production losses, in close coordination with the customer, the TSO’s (NOGA) representatives and the Contel Smart team.

For Guy, those nights captured much of what he enjoys about his work: the technical challenge, teamwork in the field and the satisfaction of seeing months of preparation come together followed by a well-earned beerwith everyone at the end.

Get to Know Guy

The origin story: As a student, Guy worked as a gardener at a leading communications company. He loved the calm of working with plants and the satisfaction of seeing the results grow over time.

Go-to productivity hack: Start by researching online, with AI tools, company documentation and examples from existing projects. And when the answer isn’t there? Turn to the team. There is always someone ready to help.

The daily soundtrack: Rock music, live concerts and the Weekly Sync technology podcast.

Superpower wish: To stop time both to fit more into every day and to make the best moments last a little longer.

Why he loves it here: Every project is a world of its own. Even when two projects look similar from the outside, once you dive in, there are always new challenges and something new to learn. And that first time logging into the Energynie portal of a project that has reached maturity is a real moment of satisfaction.

One Final Fun Fact

When Guy isn’t managing complex energy projects, you’ll probably find him with a racket in his hand. He plays tennis at least once a week with friends keeping his game sharp both on and off the court.
