Taanach Renewable Energy Project
– Israel’s Largest Solar Site.
Challenge
Teralight set out to build the largest solar PV project ever constructed in Israel to date– a 150 MWp power plant spanning four vast fields and a main substation. The challenge: synchronize the site with Israel’s grid operator (NOGA) under a tight schedule and ensure real-time control across 32 stations. Scale, interoperability between multiple contractors, and cybersecurity compliance with the Ministry of Energy made this project a true test of engineering end-to-end integration.
Contel Smart Energy Role
Contel Smart Energy delivered a complete Energy Management ecosystem, with full control across the entire site. The system is used by Teralight for energy production control, monitoring of all site systems, and data analysis for reporting and planning. It includes:
Contel Smart Energy delivered a complete Energy Management ecosystem, with full control across the entire site. The system is used by Teralight for energy production control, monitoring of all site systems, and data analysis for reporting and planning. It includes:
PPC (Power Plant Controller) for optimized grid synchronization
Local and Cloud SCADA, Substation SCADA integration
Cybersecurity infrastructure – according to the Israel’s Ministry of Energy regulation
Unified communication network – redundant fiber-optic loop topology
Cloud data and remote access for real-time diagnostics and analytics
Contel’s engineers led the system design, integration, and commissioning – connecting every inverter, tracker, and sensor into one unified end-to-end control environment, as well as the supply and implementation of all Cybersecurity hardware and software
Results
Teralight now has powerful control and data analysis tools that enable accurate production monitoring and forecasting.
150 MWp capacity powering 63,000 Israeli households
Full real-time control and monitoring via cloud and
local SCADA
Seamless interoperability across all third-party systems
Zero downtime since commissioning
Full Cybersecurity compliance and protection
Significant OPEX savings
Through fast issue detection (e.g., inverter malfunction prevented losses worth hundreds of thousands of dollars)
Conclusion
The Taanach project demonstrates Israel’s renewable energy leadership and Contel Smart Energy’s unique capability to deliver secure, scalable, and intelligent control systems for large-scale solar infrastructure.
It’s more than a project – it’s a blueprint for how innovation, flexibility, reliability, and tight cooperation can accelerate the nation’s clean energy transition.
