When the grid goes down, or external conditions cause power interruptions, life in a compound, campus, village, kibbutz or in critical facilities such as factories or hospitals cannot stop. Heavy machinery, pumps, chillers and other critical community services must keep running.
With its Behind The Meter (BTM) solution, Contel Smart Energy turns each site into its own, off-grid controlled energy island. We connect three elements under our SCADA/EMS platform: local consumers (site loads), the solarPV field, and the battery energy storage system (BESS). All operate in full coordination on the customer side of the meter. This enables the site to optimise self-consumption under zero-export constraints and prepare for off-grid operation when necessary.
Many sites already invest in PV and batteries, but without this smart control layer, they cannot receive the full value. They lose savings because loads, PV and storage are not optimized. Our BTM solution monitors consumption, PV, and battery status in real-time and dynamically controls them to maintain zero export, prioritise critical loads, and support stable island operation during outages.
For a compound, campus, village, kibbutzim and other critical facilities that see energy independence as part of their long-term resilience, BTM becomes a strategic asset to lower energy costs, reduce dependence on the grid and strengthen their ability to keep the site running in any external conditions.
